Tell us a little about yourself and your accomplishments.
My name is Tara Brown, I am a married mom of 3, including twin baby girls, and a seven-year-old boy. In my days in the outside working world, I was a trainer at Bally Total Fitness, and I eventually worked my way up to General Manager, I was actually one of just a few women to hold that position within the company!! Being home with my little bundles of joy now, after working for so many years, I needed something for myself and started my YouTube channel as a creative outlet and a way to educate others. In just 8 months I have grown to roughly 2000 subscribers, 3000 on Twitter, and almost 1000 on Instagram. My greatest accomplishments in life are my 3 little bundles of joy!!
Who are your biggest female role models and why (can be someone in your personal life, celebrity, etc.)?
My biggest female role model has always been my Aunt Diana. She embodies being the "perfect woman" to me. Just seeing or hearing from her makes my day, and it has been that way my entire life. She is such a kind, loving, fun, charismatic and hard-working woman. She is such a good mother and an amazing role model. She worked as an ER nurse for years and recently moved into a management position within the hospital. She lights up any room she is in, and she is someone I strive to be like!!
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?
If I could give my younger self some advice I would have told myself to start my journey into the beauty community much sooner, maybe even before I had children!! I would also tell myself to reach for the stars, as cliche as it sounds, take more risks and chances and not be afraid to fail.
If you are ever in a slump, how do you bring yourself out of it?
Sometimes I need a reset, I go through ups and downs just like everyone else. Honestly, a chat with my best friend, an overdue TV date with my husband or a good dance-at-thon with the kids can really turn my mood around, and suddenly I am inspired to create again!
How does social media affect your mental health?
Social media is such a great way to engage with others, get your content out there, interact with your subscribers and discover new brands, products and much more. This side of social media is uplifting, motivating and intriguing and definitely affects my mental health in a positive way! I love seeing everyone's looks they have worked so hard on, and talking with others about how amazing everyone is doing!! There is also another side to social media, the negative side where people leave mean comments or just want to start arguments with someone for no reason. I am very new to social media and it is sometimes a scary place! I try to never get immersed in drama or any negativity, but I sure have come across tons of it scrolling along, and it makes me sad. Can't we all just get along? I also see some competitiveness, which is always good, but sometimes it gets taken to an unhealthy level.
Given your previous answer, what is one thing that you would change about today's social media in general and why?
I wish social media could feel like a safe space where people could just connect with others, without fear of what someone may say to them that is hurtful. I grew up in the '80s and '90s, and in ways, it was such a simpler time!! Your phone was connected to the wall, on a cord!! Not in the palm of your hand 24/7!!
Why do you think it’s important for women to support each other and lift each other up in day-to-day interactions and on social media?
The world can sometimes be a scary place, I think it is important for women to have each others' backs. No matter what your career goals are, or what field you are in, we all have the same goals, to succeed and be happy! Women also understand women, our moods and what we go through in life, certain times of the month we may need a little extra push, and our girls are there to give it!
What are your short-term and long-term goals for your personal life, career, etc.?
My short term goals are to get myself out there more as a "brand". I started my channel as an outlet for myself, and a way to educate others, but once I branched out a bit, it became so much more than that! My long term goals are to collaborate with a brand on products, (or brands, hey why limit myself, right?) be part of campaigns and continue to grow!
Name one Nanacoco product that makes you feel more empowered, confident, and beautiful.
I will have to go with the Glitzn Gloss in the shade "Plumpy". Something about that bright bold red lip is so fierce, and I feel like I can take on anything when I am wearing it!
